I have known for a while that adding superfoods to my smoothies and cooking helped to add extra nutrients to my diet but recently I read a newsletter from Bioglan with recipes for DIY Superfood Face Masks. I started researching what benefits to my skin adding these super foods would be and decided it was something I really had to try.
I started with a Bentonite Clay Powder which can be used by itself or as the base for these DIY masks. Bentonite Clay is a mineral rich powder which can be used to replenish, moisturise, reduce toxins and minimise pores. When I've used any type of clay mask in the past it tends to draw out impurities by the next day so its a great all round product to have in your beauty cupboard. You can use this powder as a face mask, as a hair treatment, in the bath for your skin and even as a toothpaste.

I decided to try out the Cacao DIY Face Mask Recipe (posted below) which when googling, advised me that cacao on my skin would provide benefits such as anti-inflammatory properties, reducing redness and blemishes, improving my skin complexion and due to the high level of antioxidants in cacao my skin would be protected from damage and premature aging. This was in addition to the clay benefits listed above (pretty amazing right?)

DIY Raw Cacao Super Antioxidant Face Mask Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 Tbsp raw Bioglan cacao powder
2 tsp bentonite clay
1/2 tsp coconut oil
optional - 1 small mug of steeped and cooled green tea
(don’t dump it all in at once, just add a splash at a time until you get a smooth paste)
Directions
Mix dry ingredients. Add oil and then add cooled green tea 1 tsp at a time until a creamy, pudding like consistency is reached. Apply in a thick layer over face and relax for 10-15 minutes. Remove with warm water and an old face cloth as mask may stain.
This mask smells delicious! It's like putting a chocolate dessert on your face and I was pretty impressed with the results, my skin was left super smooth, brighter and I had a more even skin tone. It also made short work of my clogged impurities and brought them to the surface the next day.
I have a new found appreciation for making a DIY Face Mask at home and can't wait to try the other recipes on the Bioglan website.
