As the end of the year approaches and we start to look ahead to the new year, various thoughts and dreams usually enter our minds.

For some it's the want of a big life change like a new house, changing jobs, trying for a baby or for some it's something smaller like becoming healthy or loosing those extra kilos. We start to think about what we want to achieve, what changes we want to happen in our lives and what will the definition of that success look like?

What if I told you that for a successful year, 2019 should already be planned? And that according to most articles on future planning you should have a 3 year and a 5 year plan already in place (and this is at a minimum!)

Now to plan so far ahead I'm talking mainly your bigger goals here - career, finances, families but to be successful it is proven that you need to plan well in advance and this includes factoring in any obstacles or roadblocks that may steer your plan off course.

To show you an example of how I approached 2018 fairly unplanned but with my always pressing inner motivation, I started the year with a 3 month old baby, barely recognising myself in the mirror and sometimes half-hazardly making it through the day in a tired mum, routine focused baby haze.

The "2017" me would never have believed that 2018 would turn out to be one of my most successful years to date. I was living the #mumlife, I had started back at work in Feb and quickly found the strength and energy to be a part time mum (this then lead to a career defining role change for me), with this change it gave me new inner happiness and an opportunity for personal growth. I also found the time to continue my hobby of taking photos and instagraming my new journey through motherhood and I threw in the ongoing battle of health, fitness and weight loss. All of my efforts in my eyes were successful in varying degrees and none ranked as a failure as I sit here and reflect on the year.

With determination and organisational focus I was able to achieve more than the personal goals or benchmarks I had made for the year 2018. So sitting here on New Years Eve, I want to approach 2019 with a new goal setting and master plan mentality that I've never tried before. I can only imagine what I can achieve if I plan for it and spend every month working towards it strategically and with an organisational direction.

I have already taken goal planning to the next level with a vision board, a structured yearly diary, setting time aside weekly to work on my personal projects but I thought I would take it one step further and have signed up for a Set for Success Workshop in January which will help me set my yearly future plans and put me on track to achieving them.

Being a mum has really sparked the determination in me (I'm not sure if that's because I am so time poor these days or I have this little gem to teach about life) but I am more motivated than ever to smash my personal goals and become the best version of myself I can be.

The workshop is free to join and if you want to set yourself up for an unstoppable 2019 you can join us on January 21st at 6:00pm presented by our friends at Career Culture Lab. It is such a great way to spend your time and energy setting the years intentions.
